Don't be salty!

When you consume too much salt, your blood pressure raises. The higher your blood pressure, the higher the risk of getting heart attacks, strokes, dementia and kidney diseases. The recommended salt intake for an adult per day is around 6g. However, most of us consume much more that that, and the biggest culprit is none other than processed food.

A few tips to cut down salt intake in your diet!

1. Don’t add salt when cooking, this includes sauces and stock cubes. Season with herbs, spices and real food instead; chili, ginger or lemon juice.

2. Bread, cereal, processed foods, sauces like ketchup and mustard can contain a lot of salt, check the label before purchasing and go for low-salt options.

3. When you eat out, request for your meal to be made with lesser or no salt. Your taste buds will adjust after a few weeks and you will start to enjoy food with less salt. This small lifestyle change comes with BIG health benefits. Your body will thank you in the long term!
